Secret Prom Date? [Amy]

My friend McKenzi texted me a few nights ago and said she had an idea for prom for me. She said it had to do with my date situation, which by the way is no date…it’s still early though! Anyways, she would not tell me who or what she is talking about. I hate it when people say they have something to tell you but then they can’t! She said she wants to wait until prom is closer. I have no idea why though!

Now I am left wondering what in the world could she possibly be talking about? She said I would know closer to prom, if I did not find a date. I am not a person who likes to wait for things! Prom is still like a month and a half away. That is a long time to wait! What do you think she’s up to?

He Asked Me! [Amber]

My boyfriend finally asked me to prom…on his birthday last week! He was so romantic. My boyfriend and I are both in the marching band. On one of the side rooms where we practice, he spelled out the words “Will you go to prom with…” in rose petals! At the end, he was standing there! I was excited and happy, because he totally caught me off guard.

And I decided on my prom dress! I’m going with the green dress because the color reminded me of spring and prom is in the spring, so it makes sense. I am going accessory shopping this week because now there is less than a month until my prom. I’m going to print out this article on MyPromStyle.com for my boyfriend — it gives a guy advice on picking out a corsage. I read it and it was very helpful.

There’s more! My friend and I thought that cosmic bowling after prom would be a ton of fun. We don’t want to end the party just because the dancing is over. It’s safe, fun and I get to show off my lack of bowling skills. :-) Oh, and I did decide to go with the DJ I mentioned in my last post. He’s better and works cheaper, so I couldn’t beat that at all.

Although everything is going well, there is one missing piece: Finding an affordable limo that can seat at least 14 people. Have you guys had any luck finding your limo?

Hosting Pre-Prom! [Amy]

There are two months until my prom! My friends have started to talk about their dresses and what kind they are looking for (I will try to get a video up of them soon!). The biggest dilemma with the dress is deciding if I want a long dress or a short one. I got a long one last year, so I might do a short one this year. Usually, when I pick out a dress I decide on the color I want first, and then I go looking for a dress that matches what I imagined, but this time I might just look for any color.

Also, my mom and I were discussing the pre-prom dinner and I am for sure having it at my house again! Amy’s Pre-Prom Party 2007Last year we had about 50 people come–check out the picture of us all on my deck. My mom said she wants me to invite even more, so that as many seniors as possible can come. This could get interesting!

I need to start looking for table and chair rental companies and a good restaurant to cater. Do any of you host pre-prom parties? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I want to make this as cheap as possible, so everyone doesn’t have to pay much, but I still want it to be really nice.

Prom Rules [Amy]

I go to private school, which means we have more restrictions than most schools…even when it comes to dances and prom.

Recently, our principal has made a lot of decisions regarding rules and restrictions for dances. We now have random mouth swabbing before all dances (which tests for alcohol) and we also cannot have limos or party buses on the property of wherever the dance is held. Our principal did say he would consider changing the no limo or bus rule for prom, but we still are not sure if we can have them.

I understand all the safety issues that go with school events, but it seems like they are starting to go overboard. Today we had a long meeting and huge debate with all the seniors over random drug testing in our school. They are trying to put in a policy that allows it, but there are a lot of people who are very unhappy. I know that they just worry about keeping us safe and want us to make smart choices, but no limos or buses? That takes away one of the HUGE excitements for the dance. That is one of the things that I look forward to most! It’s like a girls dream! The perfect prom dream that most girls imagine when they are little definitely involves a limo—or at least mine did.

How different is your school’s rules and regulations for prom? Am I the only one in this situation? I really hope my principal reconsiders the no limo policy so that all my friends and I can have our dream prom!

I Missed the Dance! [Amy]

So the flu finally got to me. It seems like everyone at school has been sick the past few weeks. I thought that I was lucky and wasn’t going to get it, but I did…and at the worst possible time. I missed the Barbie-themed dance! I spent most of the weekend lying in bed sleeping, because I felt so sick and had a fever.

I had bought this dress from Victoria’s Secret and was going to be such a cute Barbie! I even had pink heels and jewelry to go with it. Barbie dance dressBut instead, I was asleep by 8pm Saturday night and feeling miserable. I still feel horrible but have to force myself to go to school this week because we can only miss so many days before we take finals. Well, as long as I’m well for prom — it is my absolute last dance of high school, so I better feel amazing!! Hopefully I will be back to normal next week!

Waiting for Him to Ask [Amber]

My boyfriend has yet to ask me to prom, so the question still remains: When will it happen? Even my history teacher is asking me if it’s happened yet, not to mention all my friends! I honestly do not know…maybe Valentine’s Day?

In other prom news, remember about three weeks ago when I wrote that I found a DJ? Well, I think I might have changed my mind. A DJ dropped his CD off at my school and it was good…better yet, his rates are cheaper. Lucky us! Does your school have the same DJ every year or do you like to find new ones too?

Next on my prom to-do list is buying shoes and accessories. That is the fun part! I decided on the green dress. Also, Valentine’s Day is next week as well as my boyfriend’s birthday. I have some shopping to do this weekend. YAY!
