Prom Was a Success! [Amy] May 2, 2008
Prom was exactly what I had hoped for! Since you commented about him on my last blog post, I’ll first say I had so much fun with my Canadian date, A.J.! It’s a different experience going with someone from another school, rather than a date who everyone knows. I was introducing him the whole night to everyone. They were excited to meet him and Kyle, the other boy from Canada. Both guys had such a fun time at the dance and said it was way different then their proms back at home. They really made this prom unique and an experience to remember forever!
Prom day started out stressful, but in the end everything worked out. The weather could not have been more perfect and there were no problems with bugs when we ate dinner on my deck. More importantly, I loved my hair and dress! Check out the pictures — what do you think?
We ended up having about 50 people at dinner! We ate chicken fettuchini alfredo, spaghetti, salad and fried ravioli. Everyone liked the food, so I’m happy with my choice of caterer.
The dance didn’t feel that much different from other school dances. It was pre-prom and post-prom that was so much fun. We had a campout at a friend’s house after the dance. We all stayed up late sitting by a bonfire talking. It was a really great time, especially since it will be one of the last times we all get a chance to hang out before we graduate.
I hope your prom night is just as amazing — let me know!

Prom is Saturday! [Amy] April 16, 2008
I’ve been waiting and planning all year for this day and on Saturday, it is finally here — SENIOR PROM! I got my dress, my shoes, my hair appointment, and everything at my house is pretty much ready to go for the pre-prom dinner. The only thing that is not too fun about this week is that all my teachers thought it would be a great idea to give us tons of tests and homework! Here is my schedule for the rest of the week until prom:
Wednesday: Call the Italian restaurant and place a food order for 54 people and call to confirm the table reservations.
Thursday: Pick up my dress from the place where it is getting altered.
Friday: Pick up the boys from the airport at 3:30pm!
Saturday: PROM!
This week I also have to collect $15 from everyone coming to dinner, and I have to think up something cute for table centerpieces. Any last minute suggestions would be appreciated! Wish me luck and cross your fingers that everything goes perfectly this weekend!! I’ll report back with lots of pictures.

One Week ‘Til Prom! [Amy] April 11, 2008
Prom is one week from Saturday and there is still so much for me to do! I have been so busy working and doing things for school that I’ve had barely any time to get ready for prom. I still do not have my shoes or jewelry! And I can’t decide between two places for pre-prom food. It’s getting so close so I will need to make a decision very soon.
I just took my dress to get altered today, and I don’t get to pick it up until Thursday before prom. Let’s hope nothing goes wrong with that since it will be two days before prom. I don’t know what I would do if something happened to my dress!
We have exactly 50 people for dinner so far, but there could be more added on to that. It’s going to be a huge group! (I have to collect money for dinner from everyone still too!) Hopefully it doesn’t rain because we will be eating outside on the deck.
There is a little bit of after-prom drama. Since we are not getting a bus anymore, we had to figure something else out. So now we have two options: 1) Have a bonfire and camp out at a friend’s house about 45 minutes away. 2) Go to a friend’s house in the city and swim and hang out. Different people want to do different things, so there is a lot of drama deciding where everyone should go. What would you choose?
The boys will be arriving from Canada on Friday at 3:30pm! Lindsey and I are going to pick them up from the airport right after school. Then, we will show them around the city the first night and then all day Saturday they will help set up for the dinner at my house! I am getting so excited!! I just hope I manage to get everything done in time!

Update on Prom Planning [Amy] April 2, 2008
Today I reserved the tables and chairs for the pre-prom party in my backyard! I picked a really great company that is reasonably priced. They will deliver everything to my house the day before (tables, chairs, and tablecloths) and then they will pick everything up the day after. I ordered enough tables for 64 people! We are still not sure of the number of guests, but it is looking like over 50. I ordered extra so that I could account for any last minutes adds. Let’s hope that I don’t need any more tables than that! My backyard is going to get VERY crowded.I also narrowed down the food choice to two restaurants. Now I just need to call and see who gives me the better price. Then, all that is left is to decide is which entrees to order and how much. We are going to charge $20 a person for dinner, which I think is a great deal because if we went out to eat it would end up being around $80 a couple, most likely. I think everyone will be really happy with this!
Less then three weeks left and I still have to get my dress altered, find shoes, and find jewelry. Wish me luck!

I Have a Canadian Date! [Amy] March 27, 2008
Remember the Canadian boys from spring break in Cancun? They asked us to their prom in Canada. Well, two of them are actually flying down to be our dates for prom! How crazy is that? But it is going to be so fun! I am going with A.J., the boy in the picture in my last post. My friend Lindsey is going with his friend Kyle, in the picture below with Lindsey and me (I’m in the middle). This is definitely going to be a different kind of prom.
Everything is starting to come together for prom now! I have a dress, date, and we are working on planning everything. I went shopping last week and ended up finding two dresses. In the end, I chose one that is all black. For my shoes and jewelry, I am looking for something that will stand out, and I want some shoes that are really fun.
We are still trying to decide which restaurant to use for dinner and we have not decided on a rental company yet. But we are for sure deciding those things by the end of the week. It is starting to get stressful because I still don’t know who is going with who at our school. It seems no one has starting asking yet. That means I have no idea how many tables, chairs, or how much food to order. Hopefully people will figure out their date situations soon. Only a little over three weeks to prom!

I Was Asked to a Canadian Prom! [Amy] March 17, 2008
My friends and I had a blast in Cancun over spring break! We met some really cute Canadian boys there too. I have been talking to one of them (in the picture) a lot since I got home.
He invited me and a few of my friends to fly up in June and go to prom with him and his friends! I have never been to a dance at another school…much less one in a different country! So that is definitely something very cool. But something very ironic about it is the fact that I have a date to a prom in Canada but NO DATE to my own prom is a month!!It seems no one at our school has even started asking people yet! I am thinking that maybe this week it will start. I have no idea who would ask me. My friends and I were talking, and we were thinking that a lot of us will probably end up just going by ourselves. I wouldn’t really mind. Sometimes it is even more fun that way!
On the 19th, it will be exactly one month till prom! I just realized exactly how much I have left to do!! My friend Lindsey and I are getting together on Tuesday after school, and we are sitting down and figuring everything out for the dinner. We need to pick the restaurant, the rental company, drinks, times, how much it will cost, who is coming. And oh yeah, neither of us has dresses or dates yet! If it was not for her, I do not think that I would be able to make it to prom, because I would have a major breakdown from stress. She is good at calming me down and helping me stay focused. Hopefully you have a friend like that!
Wish me luck these next few weeks!

Here we are in Cancun! The hotel staff greeted us with Shirley Temples.

Time for Spring Break! [Amy] March 7, 2008
After spring break, the intense prom planning will officially begin! This Saturday, I will be on my way to Cancun. My friends and I planned the trip together. I am so excited! Akon, the soul singer, will be performing in Cancun while we are down there, so we will probably go see him. My whole group of friends is going, so it is going to be so fun!
My friends and I are throwing around ideas for our prom dinner. One of my friend’s mom has a catering business. We are considering hiring her company, since we can probably get a really good deal from her! But I am still considering some restaurants.
I also still have to find a dress! I have found so many cute ones online, but I am person who has to try them on in person to see how they look. Everything is so busy that it seems like I will never have to time to prom shop! But trust me–I’ll find the time somewhere! I will get really serious about looking for a dress after spring break.
Enjoy your spring breaks!

Secret Prom Date? [Amy] February 27, 2008
My friend McKenzi texted me a few nights ago and said she had an idea for prom for me. She said it had to do with my date situation, which by the way is no date…it’s still early though! Anyways, she would not tell me who or what she is talking about. I hate it when people say they have something to tell you but then they can’t! She said she wants to wait until prom is closer. I have no idea why though!
Now I am left wondering what in the world could she possibly be talking about? She said I would know closer to prom, if I did not find a date. I am not a person who likes to wait for things! Prom is still like a month and a half away. That is a long time to wait! What do you think she’s up to?

Hosting Pre-Prom! [Amy] February 20, 2008
There are two months until my prom! My friends have started to talk about their dresses and what kind they are looking for (I will try to get a video up of them soon!). The biggest dilemma with the dress is deciding if I want a long dress or a short one. I got a long one last year, so I might do a short one this year. Usually, when I pick out a dress I decide on the color I want first, and then I go looking for a dress that matches what I imagined, but this time I might just look for any color.
Also, my mom and I were discussing the pre-prom dinner and I am for sure having it at my house again!
Last year we had about 50 people come–check out the picture of us all on my deck. My mom said she wants me to invite even more, so that as many seniors as possible can come. This could get interesting!
I need to start looking for table and chair rental companies and a good restaurant to cater. Do any of you host pre-prom parties? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I want to make this as cheap as possible, so everyone doesn’t have to pay much, but I still want it to be really nice.

Prom Rules [Amy] February 12, 2008
I go to private school, which means we have more restrictions than most schools…even when it comes to dances and prom.
Recently, our principal has made a lot of decisions regarding rules and restrictions for dances. We now have random mouth swabbing before all dances (which tests for alcohol) and we also cannot have limos or party buses on the property of wherever the dance is held. Our principal did say he would consider changing the no limo or bus rule for prom, but we still are not sure if we can have them.
I understand all the safety issues that go with school events, but it seems like they are starting to go overboard. Today we had a long meeting and huge debate with all the seniors over random drug testing in our school. They are trying to put in a policy that allows it, but there are a lot of people who are very unhappy. I know that they just worry about keeping us safe and want us to make smart choices, but no limos or buses? That takes away one of the HUGE excitements for the dance. That is one of the things that I look forward to most! It’s like a girls dream! The perfect prom dream that most girls imagine when they are little definitely involves a limo—or at least mine did.
How different is your school’s rules and regulations for prom? Am I the only one in this situation? I really hope my principal reconsiders the no limo policy so that all my friends and I can have our dream prom!
